Clad Plates Applications in the Bridge Engineering at a Galance
Bimetallic clad plates play an important role in bridge engineering, especially in corrosive or demanding environments such as coastal regions, industrial zones, and heavily polluted urban areas. Clad plates—typically 304/316L stainless steel cladded over structural steel (e.g., Q345qD, Q345qE, or ASTM A709 Gr.50/Gr.50W)—are used in:
- Bridge decks and panels, where the top stainless steel layer provides excellent corrosion resistance against road salts, acid rain, and marine air;
- Expansion joints and anchoring components, where durability and mechanical strength are required;
- Decorative and structural elements, especially in urban pedestrian bridges where aesthetics and low maintenance are essential.
These plates offer an economical alternative to using full-thickness stainless steel, while maintaining the required load-bearing capacity and long-term durability.
